Situated in the center of the country, Sheffield is England's fifth largest city with approximately half a million people.  Once famous for the manufacturing of steel and cutlery, it now boasts high-tech manufacturing and service industries, a business park, and a science park.  Sheffield Hallam University is one of the largest and most important institutions of higher education in the UK.  It has an international reputation for high quality teaching and research.  There are presently over 12,000 students studying full or part-time in nearly 100 degree programs.
